NVIDIA Open-Sources Run:ai GPU Orchestration Platform Under Apache 2.0

NVIDIA has released Run:ai, its Kubernetes-native GPU orchestration and scheduling platform, as open source under the Apache 2.0 license. Run:ai was previously a proprietary product NVIDIA acquired in 2024, offering dynamic GPU resource allocation, workload queuing, and multi-tenant cluster management for AI training and inference workloads. Opening it under Apache 2.0 means teams can now self-host, modify, and integrate it into existing Kubernetes infrastructure without licensing costs or vendor lock-in. For ML platform engineers, this is a significant operational tool — it enables fine-grained GPU sharing, fractional GPU allocation, and priority-based scheduling that raw Kubernetes lacks out of the box. Teams running large-scale training jobs or multi-team GPU clusters should evaluate Run:ai as a drop-in upgrade to their current orchestration stack.
