Microsoft Launches MAI-Transcribe-2-Streaming and Two MAI-Voice Models

Microsoft has released MAI-Transcribe-2-Streaming, a low-latency streaming speech-to-text model, alongside two new MAI-Voice models for text-to-speech synthesis, expanding its MAI model family into the voice domain. The streaming transcription model is designed for real-time applications like live captioning, voice agents, and meeting transcription, where word-level latency matters as much as final accuracy. The two voice models appear to target different quality-speed tradeoffs, giving developers options for both edge and cloud deployments. For teams building voice-enabled agents or conversational interfaces on Azure, these models are native integrations that avoid third-party API dependencies. This positions Microsoft as a more complete voice stack provider alongside OpenAI's Whisper and ElevenLabs.
